Life is Like a Restaurant

by Siimon 23. August 2010 09:50

I am amazed at how hard it is sometimes to get a waiter’s attention at a restaurant.

You call to them, wave your hands, do anything to get noticed.

And still they walk on past you, oblivious.

Why does this phenomenon occur?

The same reason you don’t succeed at the level you'd like.

Lack of focus.

Not being service oriented.

Mistaking busyness for progress.

Forgetting who’s paying the bills.

Yes, in so many ways, life is like a restaurant.

We all have customers, yet so often we walk right on by, without noticing their needs.

Have a think about it.

In life, are you a good waiter or a bad one?

A million years ago, I worked in fashion retail. My worth ethic & training saw me go above & beyond every single day. The expectation was to anticipate the needs of my clients and always go the extra mile.
That early experience created a mindset which is second nature for me now..it's not hard work, it's common sense.
On the flipside, I'm a consumer with high expectations... So when I'm out & about in the retail world and sales assistants struggle to offer me eye contact let alone good service... It drives me bananas!!!!!

You're talking about Australia, not the States, right?  in NYC, you might be discussing a sensitive deal, last night's sexcapade, your latest botox job etc etc and you can't string 3 sentences together without a server stopping by and asking "is everything all right?", leaning into convos filling water - it's a kind of overservicing, in my book. It's not an easy job - I've been there, failed that: www.escapeartist.com/efam22/Lynette_dishes.html

- but I generously tip a server who is there when you want them, absent and observing you from a distance when you don't.
